A Frighteningly Fab & Fru Halloween!

  • Position the Strobe Light: Position the strobe light so it will illuminate the entranceway.  Put it on the slowest flash speed and turn off the rest of the lights.
  • Get in Character: Put on your costume and wait for the trick or treaters to ring the bell.  Tailor your character’s level of creepiness to the age of the kids. Invite your guests to reach into the cauldron for their treat…if they dare…!

All of the elements to the create a haunted foyer are super Fab & Fru, And with the exception of the dry ice (which you can get at most butcher shops, fish markets and grocery stores) everything else can be found at a party store or drugstore.

HOST A DAY OF THE DEAD BRUNCH

day of the dead altarHalloween traditions vary around the world but none is more colorful or delicious than the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead.  Blue, pink, white, red and yellow paper art decorates altars lined with brightly colored skulls made of sugar, candles and offerings to those who have passed on.  The holiday falls officially on November 2nd and is typically celebrated with a feast of traditional (and elaborate to make) foods like tamales and moles.  However, with Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, we thought a Fab & Fru  Sunday ‘Day of the Dead’ brunch would be a fun twist and a great way to extend the spirit of Halloween into a weekend full of diverse activities.

Create a Makeshift Altar/Bar & Appetizer Table: Throw a colorful tablecloth or some fabric over a table.   Decorate the table with skull and skeleton candles. Bonus points if you put up Saints’ Candles and colorful streamers with skulls in them.  Don’t be afraid of bright colors- Orange, black, and green is soooo last Halloween. Party Cheap has some great inexpensive Day of Dead Decorations.

Your Day of the Dead Menu: Greet your guests with Bloody Marias and some Wicked Hot Chocolate.  For a Fab & Fru appetizer, have a bowl of Tortilla Chips and Salsa de Claudia waiting for them on the ‘Altar’.  Follow up drinks and apps with our Poached Huevos Rancheros servedwith a side of Black Beans & Rice and for dessert Pumpkin Fritters!
