Fab & Fru Las Vegas

Meaty Savings near the Strip

I spoke with Lisa Kneitinger, concierge at The Mirage Hotel.  She gave me a great tip for a Fab & Fru steak dinner – she swears it is delicious despite it’s very Fru price tag.  Ellis Island, one of the older hotels, is just a block away from the Strip (as Las Vegas Blvd is also called). According to Lisa, Ellis Island offers a $6.99 steak dinner special that can’t be beat! I was wary about the quality when I heard the price, but she said it is so good that there is usually an hour wait to get in (sorry, no reservations!)  The $6.99 includes steak, potato, veggie and even a glass of beer if you want it!

buffetGet Some (Ox) Tail!

For a late night treat, Lisa also suggested checking out the late night Ox Tail soup at The California hotel.  Located downtown, apparently their scrumptious soup has people lining up to wait for this unusual delight!

Spring Mountain Road

Concierge Lisa also told me that while most of Vegas is full of franchises like Cheesecake Factory, they do have a street with a flourishing Chinatown – Spring Mountain Road.  Though there are chain Asian restaurants here too, they also have some family owned gems. If you are looking to find a mom and pop eatery, this may be your best chance!

Ghiones Organic Cafe

Our Las Vegas local friends just love this Organic Restaurant, located on Anthem Village Drive in Henderson. You can bring your own wine, which only adds to the savings, plus – they DO NOT charge a corkage fee!  And for those of you with kids under age ten, they also offer a FREE 12″ cheese pizza for the little ones to go along with the purchase of your adult meal – an organic deal that cant be beat! Plus, they were so nice and helpful when we called them we just can’t wait to go there.

Thai Food

Instead of going to the mega-buffet yet again, why not check out our local friends favorite Thai food?! Many Summerlin residents swear by Pinkaowthai as their go to Thai food, and we just realized they also have outposts in the Southwest and the North!

Free & Almost Free Drinks!

Aside from the classic Vegas scenario of getting “free” drinks while blowing lots of money at the gambling tables, we wondered how else can we get our drink on for free (or almost free!) on our trip?

Dollar Days are back at the Sahara! One buck for beer, shots (plus souvenir glass), hotdogs and blackjack, all next to the Nascar Café!

Casino Royale is still running it’s own one dollar special — $1 bottles of Michelob or Margaritas – Cheers!

Treasure Island – If you place a bet at the sports book – no matter how little – you drink for free!

Red Mountain Spa

A few years back, Steph took a vacation to the Red Mountain Spa in St. George, Utah – just a 2 hour drive from Las Vegas.  If you are looking for a spa escape to top off your Vegas experience (or instead of the traditional Vegas experience) we think Red Mountain Spa is a major Fab & Fru find!  We’ve all heard about the Canyon Ranch’s of the world, but they cost a serious fortune.  Set in the stunning Red Rock Mountains, Red Mountain Spa offers many different levels of hikes each morning, delicious spa cuisine, and lots of wellness classes to choose from.

They also offer lots of great deals and promos on their website.  Right now they are offering a great last minute deal – for only $189 per person per night (based on double occupancy) you get free morning hikes, 3 gourmet meals per day, unlimited use of fitness facilities, wellness classes, cooking classes, and much more!  And they also have a world class spa if you do want to add on some treatments. But with all the free stuff you get for the “signature package” you can have an amazing trip without spending on any extras!

so i spent two days online looking for a great deal on a hotel in vegas for 5 days and 4 nights. i realize that they all make it look great til you throw in the taxes and resort fees. the best deal, and trust me when i tell you deal, is booking a condo through http://www.vrbo.com. we booked an amazing condo with a view and balcony overlooking the strip and city center for less then a hotel cost and it comes with a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. you even get a kitchenette!!!!! it has all amenities of a hotel plus a whole lot more. i can’t wait to go!!!

Any Thoughts?
