Identify Your Spending Style

So What’s Your Spending Style?

Part of keeping a spending diary is writing down how you feel at the ‘point of purchase’.  What is triggering you to make that buy?  If it’s not an essential, what is motivating you to buy it?  ImpulseBuysUnderstanding what triggers you, can help you stop yourself from overspending in the first place!

Catey has identified a slew of TRIGGERS to help you identify your unique spending style.  Let’s be honest ladies, you may have more than one…I know I do!

  • The Emotional Spender- Buying makes you feel better…. Yeah, it’s that simple.
  • The Impulsive Spender- You see it and you just HAVE TO have it!  You constantly buy on the spur of the moment without thinking your purchase through.
  • The Compulsive Spender: Buying gives you a high every time so you spend all of the time!
  • The Absentminded Spender: You don’t pay attention to all the little things you buy so when you get your credit card bill you often say “How the heck did I spend that much”?
  • The Social Spender: You spend more and spend bigger when in social situations, like eating out or shopping with friends.
  • The ‘It’s On Sale’ Spender: You can’t resist a sale.  Shopping is like a sport, and you can’t pass up a ‘good deal’ even if you don’t need the item.
  • The Reward Spender: “I deserve this because….”
  • The Spender By Category: You can’t resist certain types of things.  You may pass up getting the mani/pedi with your friends, but you’ll never give up your daily Grande pumpkin spiced latte.

As Catey says, “If you’re a latte in the morning, closet stuffed with shoes, can’t resist a sale kind of girl, it’s time to take a good, hard look at how you manage your money!” And we couldn’t agree more.  With sassy chapters like “Take on the Trends” and “The Plastic Purge” this is one financial book you’ll actually enjoy reading.  Shoo, Jimmy Choo tops our list of Fab & Fru gift ideas for that friend who has everything — except a healthy savings account…
