It’s usually not cost efficient to buy pens and paper from bulk stores unless you’re running a business, but if you split bulk supply purchases with another family or two, you will save a ton of cash!

Buy a Refurbished Computer

Students get discounts at most major computer companies, including Mac and HP, but you can actually save even more money by buying a refurbished computer.  Refurbished just means there was a minor problem with a new computer that does not effect the function of the machine (this usually equates to a cosmetic issues like a scratch or a minor quirk that has been completely fixed).  Apple even puts their refurbished computers under warranty.  If you see a good deal – act fast.  These deals often disappear within minutes!

Shop for Next Year Now

Finally… as soon as the kids go back to school start shopping the sales for NEXT school year.  Shopping off-season is the best way to save money.  Right now, I’m stocking up on the summer clothes that my family will be wearing during next summer’s final lazy days down by the river!
