Vigilante Movie Night?!

Josh and Mary’s favorite weekend activity is going to the movies to catch the latest release on the big screen.   Sounds normal enough, right?  Well…  Each of them buys a ticket to the same afternoon matinee, but when it’s over, they sneak into another movie.  It’s not uncommon for them to theatre hop up to three – sometimes four – times in the same day!

I asked Mary why they did this – especially since they have plenty of money to spend however they choose.  She told me that having lots of money doesn’t change the fact that movie theatres take advantage of their customers with their outrageous ticket prices.  She and Josh are simply taking matters into their own hands and are doing what they think is fair…  It’s not like they’re sneaking in completely for free… Or is it?

Do you believe that by only purchasing one ticket each that Mary and Josh are stealing – plain and simple?  Or do you think if the theatre doesn’t notice, why shouldn’t they get the biggest bang for their buck? What would you do?  Tell us what you think!

Morally and legally it’s wrong, but it’s so commonplace many theatres instruct their employees to check tickets of all patrons. I’m all for frugality, but if they get caught and kicked out or arrested, that’d be bad. Also, I think the little theatres that are run locally or the art theatres deserve better than people sneaking into multiple movies, especially since they usually give better customer service

It is stealing, end of story.

me and my husband did it all the time..before we had a child! now if we can get out the house we go to see the movie we paid to see and are pretty much tired by the end. granted it is stealing but who cares.

    Saniel,
All paying patrons care. When theatres lose money from people stealing from them, they pass the cost on to the rest of us who are paying. It is illegal and immoral.

I have done it for years and have no moral issue against it, seriously the price of a movie ticket is thievery.

The only time we did it was when the movie we paid for was so abysmally terrible we got up and went to another movie.

Any Thoughts?
