GMOs In Cheerios

Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

You may have heard recently that General Mills took GMOs (genetically modified organisms) out of Cheerios.  But did you know that they only took the GMOs out of Original Cheerios – which means the 13 other varieties still have them…

General Mills Is Listening

The good news is by putting our money where our mouths are, we are changing the marketplace.  General Mills took GMOs out of Original Cheerios due to public outcry.  Companies want to keep your business – and as with most things in life, money talks.

Now the move is on to get them to take GMOs out of my kids’ favorite – Honey Nut Cheerios…

What You Can Do

If you don’t want to spend your money on foods full of GMOs, it’s easy to send a message.  Voting with your wallet and vowing not to buy a product until the GMOs are removed is incredibly powerful.  You might feel like it’s hard for just one person to make a difference. But look at Cheerios – millions of people eat it – and that’s a lot of purchasing power!

In addition to not purchasing GMO foods, there are other easy, important ways to make your voice heard.  The GMO Inside website has directions of how to send messages to General Mills for the Honey-Nut Cheerios GMO campaign in addition to many others.

Keep Informed

In addition to the GMO Inside website, we recommend checking out one of our favorite bloggers, Vani Hari of Food Babe.  She has been at the forefront of this fight and many others (you can thank her for getting Yellow Dye out of several types of Kraft Mac & Cheese) and her blog is an invaluable resource for those concerned about our food supply and where our food dollars are best spent.

We want to know – have you stopped spending money on specific products because they contain GMOs? What product do you most wish were reformulated without GMOs?
